Change the Wi-Fi password
The Wi-Fi password is not the admin password. You change it only after the admin page is open. Every phone and laptop will drop off the network and must join again with the new key.

Open the admin page
Use the gateway from find your router IP. On many home routers that is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

Sign in as the administrator
Use the admin password, the sticker value, or the password from the brand app. The Wi-Fi key you are about to replace is the wrong field on this screen.

Open the wireless settings
Look for Wireless, Wi-Fi, or WLAN. Change the password for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. If both bands share one name, one change covers both. If the names differ, change both.

Save and reconnect
Save or apply. Wait for the router to come back. Forget the old network on each device, then join with the new password. Leave the admin password as it was unless you meant to change that too.
Pick a password that devices can type
Use at least 12 characters. Avoid a leading or trailing space; phones hide it and the join fails. WPA2 or WPA3 personal is the mode you want. WEP is obsolete and should not be turned back on to “make an old device work.”
What not to change in the same click
- The LAN IP, such as 192.168.1.1. Change that only when you mean to move the admin page.
- The admin password, unless you are also locking down the settings page. Write the new one down first.
- The channel and bandwidth. Those are separate from the password and can make Wi-Fi slower if chosen at random.

Frequently asked questions
Will changing the Wi-Fi password reset the router?
No. It only disconnects wireless devices. Ethernet computers usually stay online, and the admin login stays the same.
I changed it and now nothing connects.
The router is still using the new key. Stand next to it, forget the network, and type the password again slowly. If you cannot remember what you saved, a factory reset returns the sticker key and erases other settings.
Does this change the 192.168.1.1 password?
No. The address 192.168.1.1 still opens the admin page with the admin password. Only the wireless key changed.
