Find your router IP

The admin page lives at the default gateway, not always at 192.168.1.1. The gateway is a number your own device already knows. This page shows where to read it. A website cannot see that number for you.

    Connect to your own router

    Use your Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. Mobile data shows the carrier’s network, not the box in your house.

    Read the gateway for your operating system

    Follow the section below for Windows, Mac, iPhone, or Android. Write the gateway down. It looks like 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, 192.168.31.1, or 10.0.0.1.

    Open that exact number

    Type it in the browser address bar. If it is one of the addresses on this site, the matching guide has the usual username and password.

Windows

  1. Press the Windows key, type cmd, and open Command Prompt.
  2. Type ipconfig and press Enter.
  3. Under the adapter that says Wi-Fi or Ethernet, find Default Gateway.
  4. Ignore adapters named Virtual, VMware, or Bluetooth. Those are not your router.

Mac

  1. Open System Settings, then Network.
  2. Select Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then Details or Advanced.
  3. Open TCP/IP. The Router line is the admin address.

iPhone

  1. Open Settings, then Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the info button next to the connected network.
  3. Read Router. That number is the one to type into Safari’s address bar.

Android

  1. Open Settings, then Network and internet, or Connections, then Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the gear next to the connected network.
  3. Open the advanced or network details view and read Gateway.
  4. Menus differ by brand. If Gateway is missing, note the IP of the phone. The gateway is usually the same first three numbers, ending in 1, such as 192.168.1.1. Confirm before you assume that.

If the gateway is not on this site

You can still log in. Type the number you found. The sticker on the router remains the best source for the username and password. The password list only covers brands with a widely published factory login.

A VPN changes the gateway you see. Disconnect the VPN, then run the check again.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my gateway not 192.168.1.1?

Brands choose different defaults. Xiaomi uses 192.168.31.1, many Netgear and D-Link units use 192.168.0.1, and some gateways use 10.0.0.1.

Can this website detect my router?

No. Browsers do not hand a site your gateway. The steps above read it on the device itself.

The gateway page is not a router login.

You may have opened a modem status page such as 192.168.100.1, or a mesh node. Match the number with the label on the box you want to administer.
